Summer Reading Program 2020 - Imagine Your Story!

The Summer Reading Program is here! And this summer, it's more important than ever to get reading, whether you're a little one just learning to love books or an adult bookworm ready to dive in to something new. This year's theme is "Imagine Your Story," a celebration of myths, legends, and folklore. We'll have weekly themed events, craft kits for pick up, and prizes for kids, teens, and adults.

What about coronavirus? All of our events this year are either online or outdoors, and our weekly crafts will come in the form of a take-home kit that you can pick up at any point during the week in an easily sanitized box. We are hoping that anyone who is minimizing their risk will still be able to fully participate without ever needing to set foot inside the library!

Summer Reading starts Saturday, June 27th and runs until Saturday, August 15th. Sign up so you don't miss out on any of the fun!

We're going online!
There's lots of good reasons you might want to do summer reading at home this year, so we're trying to make sure everyone can participate.

Click here to sign up for our new totally online reading tracker: ReaderZone! or, you can search for the ReaderZone app on any smart device. It will ask you for a code to sign up, Jefferson Public Library's code is: 93FB7

You can only have one reader per age group, per account with ReaderZone. If you have multiple readers of the same age group in your family, you will need additional accounts for them. We're always available to help if you run into any problems, so feel free to give us a call if you need us.

Not tech friendly? No internet service? Paper trackers are available at the library if you'd like to track your reading that way!

Summer Reading Prizes
Read a book, get a prize! The library has several prizes that you can get a chance to win simply by reading, and the more you read the better your chances. Here's how it works:
  • For readers in the Adult (18+) category, you get a prize drawing entry for every 5 hours you read or listen to audiobooks over the summer.
  • For readers in the Teen (13-17) category, you get a prize drawing entry for every 3 hours you read or listen to audiobooks over the summer.
  • For Kids (5-12) and Pre-readers (0+), you don't need to wait until the end of the summer for your prize! For every week that you read, have someone read to you, or listen to audiobooks for at least 2 hours, you can come in and pick a prize from our prize room.
Either track your reading time online with ReaderZone or with one of our paper trackers. If you're an adult or a teen reader, all you'll need to do is call, email, or visit us, show off your tracker, and tell us which prize pack(s) you're hoping to win; we will get your entries in for that drawing. You can do this once at the end, a few times over the summer, or every week. Just make sure you get your hours to us before the end of the day on August 20th! If you're a kid or a pre-reader, simply stop by the library once a week with your tracker and pick out your prize from the prize room.

Adult prize packs:
Sustainable Supplies: Countertop compost bin, reusable straws, and more
Get fit: Yoga Mat, jump rope, and more
Gardening: PNW gardening book, native seeds, and more
Cooking: Cookbook and more
Local Gift Cards: Jefferson Bakehouse, Regal Cinema (Albany or Salem) and more

Teen prize packs:
Skateboard pack: helmet included!
Backpack pack: Two colors to choose from!
Art pack: Learn to watercolor with all the supplies you need!
YA lovers pack: start your home library with some YA essentials!

Kid's prizes:
Since kids tend to like several small prizes rather than waiting for one big prize at the end, littles get to choose their prizes every week! Come check out our prize room to see what we have, pick one, and take it home right away.
